Jdpmoyo Trains Youths on Digital Media Advocacy

In an effort to raise the next generation of competent young politicians through digital media on civic engagement, the Jdpmoyo through the Social Transformation Movement of Nigeria organized a-day workshop on "Strategic training on the use of new media as a tool to cause change, attract government and generate income by young politicians" in the Catholic Diocese of Oyo.

Welcoming the participants from Oyo and environs, the Coordinator of Jdpmoyo, Rev Fr Gabriel Adeleke, represented by the Assistant Coordinator, Rev Fr Matthew Olayinka Oladosu said, the waves and speed of new media is taking the global centre stage in local and international development.

He advised the youths to make use of the valuable opportunities online to make legitimate money and invest in their personal development to drive positive social change rather than chatting always.

The programme was facilitated by the Team Lead of Act Hub Africa, Mr John Femi Olla, a social development and ICT expert who explained various ways through digital media, notably, how the social media platforms can help in channeling proper energies and advocacy for positive developmental changes in the society.

RUDEP Facilitates Learning Visit to NSPRI, Ilorin

Sustainable agricultural development is an integral part of humanity that promotes a peaceful society through bio food security. This resonates one of the core mission of Rural Development Programme (RUDEP) of the Catholic Diocese of Oyo in a bit to ensure improved livelihood for farmers in Oyo, Oke-ogun and Ogbomoso.

The team led by the Head of Dept (RUDEP), Mr Anthony Ogunnupebi was received by Dr. A. O. Oyebanji, the
Director (Perishable Research) who explains that the Nigerian Stored Products Research Institute is one of the Research Institutes under the supervision of Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria (ARCN) in the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources.

According to him, "The Institute was established in 1948 as West African Stored Products Research Unit WASPRU) during the colonial era of the country to assess the quality of exportable crops from Nigeria, Ghana, Sierra Leone and Gambia to United Kingdom. It became Nigerian Stored Products Research Institute after the independence in 1960. Since the inception of the Institute, it has been supervised by different Ministries".

The team later meet with Engr Adeiza Andrew and Engr (Dr) Ogunjinrin who took the farmers around the facilities such as : Silo which has capacity to accommodate about 100 tonnes of grains, Wooden Crib, Experimental Silos, Eco-friendly fish smoking kiln, Fruits and Vegetable Shed, Fruits Dryer, Hybrid Dryer, Ice Fish Box, Large Capacity Electrical Dryer, Parabolic Solar Dryer and Ventilated Yam Barn.

The Institute Executive Director Dr. (Mrs.) P. O. Pessu, represented by Engr. (Dr.) F. F. Olayemi, Director (Research Operations) says, The Nigerian Stored Products Research Institute conduct Research into the post harvest handling adding that NSPRI disseminate results of research through appropriate Extension methods to improve competence and skills of farmers, industrialists, produce handlers and inspectors.

He further stated that the excursion was timely because it would go a long way in spreading the best storage practices amongst others to Oyo States. Engr (Dr) Olayemi maintained that the institute is mandated to conduct research into: Improvement and maintenance of quality of perishable crops including all roots and tuber crops, fruits and vegetables and other such crops.

This is an institution with an unraveled pedigree and achievement since 1995. It is a social arm of the church shouldered with the empowering the less privileged masses for their sustenance. We covered 19 out of 33 local government areas in Oyo State, Nigeria where we have been able to positively affected over 5,000 people in the area of education, awareness, creation, technical back up, advocacy, networking with relevant agents on training on economic ventures for survival

Catholic Diocese of Oyo Celebrates Rev Sr Eunice Olushola Ikufisile, OSF

What has a beginning must definitely have an end. There was a moment of joy and mixed reactions during the Holy Mass at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Cathedral, Asogo, Oyo town as parishioners, families, friends, associates and members of staff, Justice Development and Peace Movement (JDPM) of the Catholic Diocese of Oyo, converge to celebrate the Diocesan Director for Communication Commissions, Rev Sr Eunice Olushola Ikufisile who has been transferred to Lagos State.

In his Homily, Rev Fr Olabode who preached from Luke 9: 7-9 describe human being as a living creature with a shorter time. He pointed out that Jesus Christ was unbeatable and shine illustriously when the time was right for him despite the hatred against his gospel by King Herod. Rev Fr Olabode further stated that Rev Sr Eunice Ikufisile's performance is undoubtedly one of the best records that speak for her in all places.

He described her as a professional communicator who used her talents to transform the communication department of the diocese, adding that, her passion for youth development and the gospel remain unparalleled.

While speaking during the send-off ceremony, the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Oyo, Most Rev Dr Emmanuel Adetoyese Badejo narrated how he came in contact with the celebrant at Ilesa in 2007 after his return from Sabbatical leave in Rome.

“No one knows tomorrow because I couldn't but keep wondering how God works miraculously. When Sister Eunice was transferred from Osogbo to Oyo Diocese in January 2016. The mandate was to identify, train and collaborate with other people on youth development, I never know she is skilled at communication and media. It didn't occur to me that we have met a few years ago until a discussion ensues.”

Bishop Badejo described Rev Sr Eunice as a workaholic, committed, professional and highly creative woman who relates well with every priest and other stakeholders to get the work done anytime.

In his opening remark, Very Rev Fr Boniface Wuraola commended the effort of the outgoing Director of Social Communication Commissions in repositioning the roadmap of the diocese. He charged her to remain steadfast, dedicated and continue to strive hard for the gospel.

During the words about the celebrants, various speakers : Rev Fr Michael Falade, former Communication Director, extol the virtues and indelible contribution of Sr Eunice to the development of talent discovery among the youths. He advised her to prepare for more challenges as the new role would present another phase of microcosm.

The Bishop Secretary and Parish Priest, St Anthony Catholic Church, Ilora, Rev Fr Clement Ishola who cited many instances said Sr Eunice Ikufisile is a unique woman who loves her job so well that she denied herself many pleasurable things.

The Diocesan Youth Coordinator, Rev Sr Elizabeth Agwu noted that her predecessor was particularly attentive, compassionate and open to discussion which assisted her to perform efficiently when she took over.

Others, former and present Catholic Women Organization (CWO) President, Oyo Zone, Mrs Juliana Alade and Mrs R. Adesina saluted the resilience, dedication and passion of the celebrant towards social communication programmes in the diocese.


The celebrant, Rev Sr Eunice Olushola Ikufisile OSF arrived Oyo Diocese in January 2016 when she was appointed as the Diocesan Youth Coordinator till 2018 before she became the Director of Social Communication Commissions, the post she held till September 2021. While speaking, she appreciated God, the Bishop, priests and every other members of the Catholic community for the opportunity and promise not to relent but refine her desire in aspiring for greater places in life. She added that only God knows what the future holds for everyone because she never dreamt of where she is today.

The high point of the programme was cultural dance display by the Opa Ife Group, musical interlude by Olanipekun and his band, presentation of award by Rev Fr Benjamin Jolasun, gifts donation by the representative of Jdpm Oyo, CMO, CEO of Santofelm Media Consult, Iwo, Osun State and a toast by Rev Sr Mary-Assumpta Taiwo SSMA.
